I was interested in your article in the Ilkeston Advertiser on October 10 2013, regarding the Duke of Rutland registering his manorial rights.
I belong to a group of homeowners in the south of England who are similarly affected by the local lord of the manor registering these rights. We have formed an action group and are very keen to contact other similar groups across the country.
We are determined to fight them in every way that we can and are contacting people throughout the UK who have had a similar experience in order to mount a national campaign to redress this out of date nonsense.
We think that this is a disgraceful situation and is at the expense of ordinary householders from whom this information has been concealed for generations and who, in their ignorance, have bought properties thinking them to be free and clear of any ‘notice’.
It is all very well for these landholders to say ‘it doesn’t affect anything’ but it certainly does, in our view.
The emotional impact in some cases has been dreadful, and the financial implications that some have already suffered have been considerable.
