I would like to record my thanks to everyone who took part in the West Hallam’s annual Christmas light switch-on. There were so many helpers to make the event a success from members of the Parish Council, members of the Village Hall Charity Committee, the Church, the Girl Guides who served mince pies, teas and coffees, the ‘sound’ team and, of course, the ladies who made the mulled wine.
The evening commenced with a magic show for the children, carols played by Ilkeston Brass and then the switch-on which was carried out by some of the young people present. All this was followed by a short carol service and whilst all this was going on Father Christmas made a visit to hand out sweets and talk to the children.
It was great to see so many people turn out, it is events like this that keeps the community spirit alive and it was great to get really positive feedback from young and old alike.
The response and attendance for this event and for our Sunday Remembrance Day Parade and Service held on November 13 shows just what community spirit there is in West Hallam.
Many, many thanks to all those who supported these events.
Chairman, West Hallam Parish Council
