Being grateful for what you’ve got is the key to a long, happy life acording to Ilkeston woman, Lizzie Beardsley, who turned 100 on Thursday.
The former factory worker and housekeeper celebrated the day with a surprise party for family, friends and fellow residents at Victoria Court.
She said: “It’s all about being grateful for what you’ve got and not wanting more than you need.”
Lizzie, who was married to Wilfred who died 15 years ago, was one of 13.
She didn’t have any children and has one remaining sister, Iris.
Brenda Featherstone, Lizzie’s niece, said: “She’s an amazing woman. She had a great party and really enjoyed herself.
“I think the residents had a lot of fun as well. It was a great celebration.”
