Armed police swooped on Ilkeston home

Armed response officers were called to a house in Ilkeston following reports of a firearm in the property.

An undisclosed number of police officers rushed to the house in Nottingham Road at 4.45pm on Wednesday August 27.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “We were called to a house in Nottingham Road following a report that there may have been a firearm in the house.

“Officers went to the address and found that the gun was a gas -powered airsoft gun, similar to a BB gun.

“The gun was seized.”

The spokesman confirmed that no offence had been commited as a licenee is not required for that type of gun.

He added: “There was no danger to the public.”

There was much talk about the incident on social networking sites, as people witnessed officers at the scene.
