Watchdogs have criticised Derbyshire health and care providers after they revealed how an elderly Eckington patient was prevented from going home to die beside the brother he had lived with all his life.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and the Local Government Ombudsman launched an investigation into the 77 year-old’s final days in 2009 and probed the failings of Moss Valley Medical Practice, Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the former NHS Derbyshire County PCT, Derbyshire County Council and Sheffield City Council.

They concluded the retired miner - who was unable to walk and suffered from diabetes and Alzheimer’s Disease - had been deprived of his liberty without a proper account of the law.
