Bikers who rode 210 miles from Ilkeston to Mablethorpe and back again raised a massive £9,000 for Ilkeston charity Ben’s Den.

The total collected by the gang of 18 riders almost reached the £10,000 target the charity wanted to raise in it’s tenth year.

Ben’s Den was set up in 2004 after local lad Ben Parker, 13, lost his battle with cancer.

The organisation has two caravans for families to allow poorly children to holiday with their families.

A cheque was handed over to Ben’s parents Darren and Tracey Parker at the ThreeHorseshoes Pub which supported the riders.

Tracey said: “We were amazed when they said how much they had raised.

“They put so much effort in and this just shows it really was worth it.

“All the training that they did in the run up, the fundraising and not to mention the ride itself.

“We set out to host ten events this year with each having a target of raising £1,000 to make £10,000 to mark the ten year anniversary of us setting up but this event has nearly raised the whole year’s target. We can’t thank them all enough.”
