Erewash Borough Council have made a full apology to a widow who was made to stand and wait as her husband;s grave was dug after a cemetery mix up.
Debbie Clarke’s heartbreaking story featured on the front page of the Advertiser last week.
As a result of the story a council representative visited her at her Cotmanhay home.
A spokesman for Erewash Borough Council said: “Phil Wright, director of operational services at the council has been and visited Mrs Clarke and has offered the council’s sincere apologies to her and her family for the less than normal high standard of service from the council and the distress caused at such a difficult time.
“Phil Wright has given Mrs Clarke a full explanation and a personal apology on behalf of the council for the errors made and we would like to offer our condolences to the family.”
The council has also waived all charges in relation to the interrment.
