Almost £26,000 worth of grants have been handed out by Erewash Borough Council to community groups, including several in Ilkeston.
Twenty-nine local organisations have benefited from donations of up to £2,000 each to help them continue their community work.
The support is thanks to the Small Grants scheme, which the council has doubled this year – meaning the money pot to help groups in the borough for this year has risen to £82,500.
Projects awarded funding in the latest round of handouts included Ilkeston Carnival, the Kirk Hallam Lakeside Festival and clubs and groups such as the Ilkeston Stroke Society and Sight Support Derbyshire.
Play schemes and clubs put on for pensioners also received cash donations.
Cllr Carol Hart, lead member for community engagement, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to double the amount of funding for our Small Grants scheme, which means that we can help even more groups.
“I know these grants are often a lifeline for organisations both large and small to provide a whole range of projects, activities, care and much more for residents of all ages.
“We’ve opened the second round of funding and we are keen to see more groups and organisations apply for a grant – so let’s hear from you.”
