Erewash Borough Council has more than halved its charge to customers for contaminated land searches.
The fee had originally been £60 for enquiries which often include requests for information on permitted industrial processes, any tank storage on site, historic pollution incidents and former landfills.
However, the council says most of that information is now obtained by consultants who offer ‘all inclusive’ packages for customers. It means the council now receives requests for information which only it holds and says the reduced charge reflects the smaller amount of time needed to research and supply the details.
The new fee is £25, with a further £25 for any additional hour or part hour for requests that do need more time to prepare. Cllr Barbara Harrison said: “Times have changed considerably in how customers now obtain their information and it is absolutely right that we reduce our fees to reflect the reduction in time our officers now spend on this type of enquiry.”
