Stapleford’s Christmas tree has been removed by Broxtowe Borough Council for health and safety reasons – and will not be replaced.
Richard MacRae, chairman of the Stapleford Community Group, said the tree was cordoned off by police at around 9.30pm on Wednesday because it was in danger of falling over.
The tree – in the town centre – was then removed the next morning by the council.
Richard, 42, added that the Stapleford Town Management Team will not be putting a new tree up.
Richard said: “I think it was a mixture of bad weather and vandalism.
“As nice as it looked you don’t want it falling on people.
“It is very sad but health and safety has to come first.”
