Schoolchildren, community groups and local businesses in Ilkeston could be set to benefit from funds raised from a new daily deal site with strong Ilkeston links.
The site, OriginalGiving, which sells entertainment and leisure offers at discounted rates offers to donate up to 25 per cent of purchase prices to causes of the buyer’s choice.
In partnership with causes such as the British Heart Foundation, the site helps revolutionise the way people raise funds for charities and residents.
Mother-of-two Dawn Hagarty, of Millfield Road in Ilkeston, joined OriginalGiving two months ago, she said: “Since then I’ve purchased a few discounted deals.
“When signing up, you can select who you want to raise money for - I chose Chaucer Junior School because that’s where my six-year-old son, Rhys, goes.”
She added: “Last weekend we went to Newark after buying four tickets from the site.
“So far we’ve raised over £15 for the school, saved money and all while the kids have had a great day out.”
Ilkeston-born Paul Redmond, 30, was appointed editor of OriginalGiving in July 2013.
He said: “Previously our website was only open to corporations and businesses who wanted go give, but now it enables people everywhere to donate money to causes close to their heart without sacrifice.”
