Distraction burglar climbed through window

Police are appealing for information after a 65-year-old woman had her purse stolen by a distraction burglar, who climbed in through her window.

The incident, which took place in Critchley Street, Ilkeston on Tuesday (July 15), involved a distraction created by the offender, who approached the open window of a house and asked for a pound coin for bus fare.

The occupant agreed to provide the money and went into her kitchen, returning to find that the burglar had climbed in through the window and disappeared with her purse. No description of the burglar has yet been released but police are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in Critchley Street when the incident took place at around 8.30pm.
