Six dog owners have been forced to cough up £80 each after being caught failing to pick up after their dogs in Cotmanhay.
They were issued with fixed penalty notices by Erewash Borough Council neighbourhood wardens during a two-week campaign at the start of this month.
Another owner is £80 out of pocket for allowing their dog to run into a children’s play area where dogs are banned control orders which came into force this year.
Lead member for the environment, Cllr Barbara Harrison, said: “The council, residents and the responsible dog owners of this borough are all fed-up with those people who fail to pick up after their pets and we will continue to do whatever we can to take action against them.
“A targeted campaign is part of this on-going work, but on a wider level we do need the help of residents to tackle this problem. Tell us the days and times and locations if you know someone who regularly walks their dog and leaves the mess behind.”
