A determined student who is set to climb one of the world’s tallest peaks, Mount Kilimanjaro for Childreach International has almost doubled his fundraising efforts after featuring in the ‘Tiser.

Sam Gent, 19, of Cotmanhay Road had only raised £800 two weeks ago, but after hosting a cake stall, band night at a local pub and featuring in the paper he has raised more than £1,400 with support from local businesses.

Ilkeston based timber merchants SV Timber Ltd gave £350 after the band night at The Davy Lamp pub in The Triangle, while accountants AHBS Ltd of Mundy Street in Ilkeston donated £25.
