Detectives are hunting bank card thieves who preyed on revellers at bars in Leeds.

British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for information after eight people had their cards stolen from two city centre nightspots by crooks who then plundered their bank accounts.

They have released images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the thefts, which took place on February 1 and 2 at the Stone Roses Bar, on Lower Briggate, and Back Room Bar on Call Lane.

Detective Constable Jason Ridgeway is leading the investigation.

He said: “Eight people reported attending these bars and then later discovering that their credit or debit card was missing.

“Following the thefts large amounts of cash were withdrawn from the victims’ bank accounts.

“The cards have also been used in supermarkets where low value purchases have been made and cash back obtained.”

After following several lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV and tracing the transactions made on the cards, detectives are now releasing images of two men they believe may have key information about the investigation.

Det Con Ridgeway said people should be careful when using their cards, adding: “We believe that the victims have been watched entering their PIN details when making purchases at the bar, and then had their cards stolen during the evening.

“It is important to remember to cover your hand when entering PIN details, be aware of your surroundings, and keep a close eye on your belongings to reduce your chances of being a victim of crime.

“If anyone recognises these men, or knows their whereabouts, then please get in touch.”
