Recently I went to the Scala Cinema to see ‘The Railway Man’ and was treated to a lovely surprise by how the Scala has been restored to its former glory by the new owners - beautiful redecoration with the intricate mouldings done in gold, new seating and flooring, carpeted aisles with the steps edged in blue LED lighting. It was lovely and warm and you did not have to fumble your way out at the end of the performance because there was better lighting.
The transformation really is fantastic. The sad thing was that there were only eleven people at the 5.30pm performance.
Come on people of Ilkeston, patronise your local cinema and show your appreciation for the efforts of the new owners. It is much cheaper than the big multiplex centres in Nottingham and Derby, you do not have the problem of travelling and it is free to park.
