The Mayor of Erewash is breaking from tradition and showing her support for the ‘Tiser’s Feed Our Families campaign by making a donation to Ilkeston’s food bank rather than sending out Christmas cards.

Cllr Val Clare took her donation down to the Arena’s community bank on Friday in time for it to be used for the Christmas food parcels.

She explained: “Times continue to change and this year social media has enabled me to send out my Christmas good wishes to residents, on behalf of members and officers of the council, through channels like Facebook and Twitter – along with the council’s own website and its

newsletter.

“This gave me the opportunity to break from tradition and choose not to send Christmas cards but instead donate to thefood bank, which provide such an important service and will, in particular, be a lifeline for those people who find themselves struggling in the run-up to and over the festive season.”

Cllr Clare will also be making a donation to the Long Eaton food bank.

Meanwhile your donations continue to come in to the Advertiser offices.

With just two weeks to go until the big day we are urging readers to make a donation if they haven’t already.

Lisa Harrison, food bank manager, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the support shown and long may it carry on.”
