Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry is urging local residents, campaign groups and Trowell Parish Council to lobby the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles MP.

She wants people to make their views known to Mr Pickles after he called in the decision to grant permission for a new open cast mine on Shortwood Farm.

Anna said: ““I have now spoken at length to Eric Pickles’s office.

“The Secretary of State has used a procedure to allow himself more time to consider calling in the decision.

“I am meeting Eric Pickles on Monday afternoon to urge him to call in the decision for reasons given in my letter to him before Christmas.

“I have also urged Trowell Parish Council and campaign groups to lobby Eric Pickles to call in the County Council’s decision.”

Anna asked Mr Pickles to consider the application given the loss of Green Belt land, the increased traffic as well as dust and noise pollution at the site between Cossall and Trowell.
