New tents to the rescue

Cubs new tents

A thankyou to the Big Kirk Hallam project for £1,000 of funding that enabled a local Cub pack to buy new tents took on extra meaning.

For the new kit proved its worth when 65 members of the 21st Ilkeston (Kirk Hallam) group were caught in torrential rain on a district camp at the end of July at Sherbrook ScoutCamp in Calverton.

As the storm approached the lucky locals got a 20 minutes warning from many sources as to how bad it was.
Having a building for cooking and dining was a as the Vubs and leaders took shelter along with all their personal gear from the tents.

News from another campsite was that they had lost everything!
The last few cubs were running into the building with their kit when the rains came.
Making the best of things, akela Diane Harris started a sing-song of campfire songs, while other leaders made sure the tents were as secure as possible!

The water rose but just failed to get into the building and a couple hours later the group moved back into the tents as the water subsided.

There was little water in the tents and they were well and truly put to the test.

Cub Scouting is open to boys and girls from the age of 7-and-three-quarters. Adult leaders, helpers or administrators are always needed.
