The ‘Tiser’s Pennies For Our Heroes fundraising campaign is still running and we need your backing to bump up our total, which currently stands at just over £250.

Ilkeston Town Hall and Nationwide building society on Bath Street have been collecting jam jars of cash from generous readers and are still welcoming donations.

All proceeds of loose change, however big or small, will contribute towards the planting a memorial tree in memory of Ilkeston’s brave men and women who gave their lives during ‘The Great War.’

The campaign is part of our efforts to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One in 194.

The location of the Pennies memorial tree is still yet to be decided — readers are invited to send in their suggestions by emailing news@ilkestonadvertiser.co.uk.

As part of the campaign, the ‘Tiser has also been re-publishing a series of letters sent to Ilkeston from the frontline — the next of which will feature in next week’s edition.
