Ilkeston’s registration office has moved to the town hall because the building would cost too much to repair.
Derbyshire County Council has decided to relocate from its current base in Lord Haddon Road because the building is in need of renovating and too expensive to repair.
The final wedding ceremony will take place tomorrow (Saturday) and the first ceremony at the town hall will be held next Friday (September 5).
Councillor Brian Ridgway, cabinet member for council services “We will continue to offer the same full service at the town hall and the new location will be more convenient for residents.
“We are moving because of the outdated facilities and inefficiencies of the Lord Haddon Road site and this will enable us to deliver on our promise to bring a better service to the local community by improving what we currently offer.
“The new offices will give people more choice with three ceremony rooms available to choose from including the Mayor’s Parlour compared to the one room we currently offer.”
