Ilkeston born actor William Roache is set to walk the cobbles of Coronation Street again in the next fortnight when filming for his return to the soap begins.
The 82-year-old’s character, Ken Barlow, is said to be part of a comic storyline when he returns to our screens in the summer following a year long break during which he was cleared of a list of historic sex offences.
Speaking straight after he was found not guilty by a jury at Preston Crown Court Mr Roache said he was keen to get back to work.
Writers got around his absence by sending Ken on a trip to Canada to care for his sick grandson Adam.
Upon his return, Ken will whisk wife Deirdre off on holiday.
Producer Stuart Blackburn said:“I can’t wait to see Bill back on screen.
“I’m going to give Ken and Deirdre a little holiday. What could possibly go wrong?
“Ken raises the idea of going away and she’s busy scanning the papers for places in Monaco or Barbados, something like that.
“Then he pulls up in a hired caravan saying, ‘Let’s go to North Wales!’”
