Ilkeston born actor William Roache will meet his lawyers this week to decide whether to take legal action over historic sex charges made against him.
The 81-year-old, famous for playing Coronation Street character Ken Barlow, was cleared of two counts of rape and five of indecent assault following a four week trial last month.
According to the national press he is furious that the case made it to court with what he says was not enough evidence.
A friend close to the star told the Sunday Mirror: “Bill and his family still don’t understand how the case against him ever reached court.
“He knows the allegations against him were very serious and that the police have a job to do when serious claims like these are made. But, equally, he and his solicitors are concerned there was a real lack of evidence to back up what was being claimed.
“He simply thinks someone should say sorry for putting him through the worst ordeal of his life.”
A spokesman for the actor confirmed: “Bill will meet solicitors and is keeping all his options open.”
