Traffic on Ilkeston’s busiest roads will be looked at thanks to cash set aside by Derbyshire County Council.

Labour county councillors in Ilkeston have secured a major review into the current state of the town’s road network.

Money will be used to carry out the first traffic survey into Ilkeston’s busy and congested roads, particularly around Chalons Way, Nottingham and Stanton roads.

The decision comes after Labour members gave the Cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport a tour of Ilkeston’s traffic trouble spots last year.

Cllr Michelle Booth said: “Ilkeston’s roads have been struggling for some time.

“With new houses being built and plans for even more homes on the Stanton site, the time is right to review how traffic is managed in Ilkeston, particularly around known choke
points.

“I hope that there will be some benefit for traders and shoppers in Ilkeston Town Centre and the issues get sorted following the survey.”
