Youngsters throughout Ilkeston will enjoy a sport-packed week after their schools signed up to a week-long national scheme.
Erewash School Sport Partnership (ESSP) urged schools to back National School Sports Week, which encourages young people to complete at least five hours of PE and sport between June 23 and June 27.
ESSP development manager Rhian Lilley told the Advertiser she was thrilled by the response from local schools.
She said: “We’ve had lots of schools signing up which just shows how important sport is for our teachers and pupils.
“The week promises to be a real celebration of school sport and all the activities that schools have come up with sound great.
“We hope everyone has a fantastic time and feels inspired by sport.”
There are more than 120 Erewash School Sport Partnership young ambassadors who will be planning and running events in their schools.
Chaucer Junior School will be tying in its sports day, on June 27, and Mapperley Primary School has a whole week of events planned including a dance session, yoga, handball, a visit from Derby County, archery and maths and literacy work based on school sports such as data handling, measuring and looking at famous sports people.
