Teachers across Ilkeston and Erewash are being urged to celebrate sport in their schools and get pupils putting on their PE kits by signing up for National School Sport Week.
The Erewash School Sport Partnership is hoping that hundreds of youngsters across the borough will take part in the annual event, which is run by the Youth Sport Trust.
The trust is encouraging all young people to complete at least five hours of PE and sport during National School Sport Week, which will take place from June 23 to 27.
Rhian Lilley, development manager at Erewash School Sport Partnership, said: “This is a really great opportunity for schools to hold a celebration of school sport and we hope that every school in the borough will take part.
“We will be organising festivals and we hope that schools run their own events too, there are lots of ideas. They could run events to tie in with the Commonwealth Games or choose a particular theme that their pupils would enjoy.
“Our mascot, Erewash Eddie, will also be out and about visiting schools which take part.”
