A three-sided picnic shelter in Shipley County Park was destroyed by vandals on Sunday afternoon.
The alarm was raised at 5.50pm after a resident spotted the flames.
Crews from Ilkeston and Heanor used the aerial ladder platform and used two hose reel jets to put out the flames.
According to Derbyshire County Council, a picnic table was dragged inside the 30 ft by ten ft structure and set on fire.
The shelter was known as the Hall Site Shelter, as it was built on the site of the old hall.
Anyone with information about the blaze is asked to call police on 101.
