A singer with Ilkeston ties is to compete in an international beauty competition in Florida.

Jolieanna Davis, is new to the world of beauty competitions but has qualified to compete in the Mrs International Beautiful pageant held in the USA.

Jolieanna, 30, owns Bedazzled Boutique, a clothing shop in Derby which she runs with her mum and sister.

After the store sponsored two Derbyshire pageants, Jolieanna, who is married, was spotted by a director and entered into the Mrs United Kingdom Beautiful contest, which she won despite no previous pageant experience.

She will travel to the United States for the three-day pageant, which begins on July 1, and will take part in categories including interview, swimwear, party wear and evening wear.

Jolieanna said: “I’m excited because so far everybody I’ve met has been so supportive and nice. It’s not been heavily competitive. I’m still feeling at a slight disadvantage, especially in my age group, there are people who have done this since they were 17.”

Jolieanna, who is also through the initial stages of this year’s X Factor, is the daughter of goalkeeper Donald ‘Joe’ Sharman, who played for Ilkeston FC in the 1950s and went 584 minutes without conceding a goal — a record that stood for 55 years.
