People are being urged to give up their bed for the night and join the Mayor and leader of Erewash Borough Council sleeping on the streets.

Cllr Val Clare and Cllr Chris Corbett will set up their sleeping bags next to the Long Eaton war memorial on April 25 to raise cash for the local homeless charity, the Canaan Trust.

Cllr Clare said: “I hope as many residents as possible will join me in supporting this event.

“Sleeping rough for just one night is a small price to pay in raising valuable funds to support those less fortunate than ourselves.”

The Canaan Trust is a Long Eaton-based charity that works with homeless people across the borough.

Cllr Corbett added: “As a council we work alongside and recognise the importance of organisations such as The Canaan Trust and the incredible work they carry out within Erewash. They offer help to those who find themselves in difficulty – their support can be life-saving and life-changing.”
