A Neighbourhood Watch volunteer has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM)for her work in protecting communities in Ilkeston.
Gill Riley, of West Hallam, was announced as a winner of the BEM in the Queen’s New Year Honours.
She was presented with the medal by Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire William Tucker.
She is chairman of Ilkeston’s Neighbourhood Watch team and was also nominated for her voluntary and partnership work with Derbyshire Police.
PC Russ Crooks, of Ilkeston Rural Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said that he and Inspector Nick Daines nominated Gill to acknowledge all her good work.
PC Crooks said: “She is a credit to the community and we fully appreciate the effort she puts into trying to make the neighbourhoods of Ilkeston a better place for everyone.
“Gill is involved with crime prevention in a variety of areas including doorstep crime and hate crime.
“She is a credit to the community and we fully appreciate the effort Gill puts into Ilkeston.”
