The countdown is now underway for this year’s Ilkeston Charter Fair, one of the oldest and largest street fairs in Europe.
Ilkeston town centre will once again be transformed into a colourful spectacle when the historic fair packs into the Market Place and surrounding streets for its 761st year.
The Charter Fair attracts thousands of people when it rolls into town with some of the biggest and best travelling rides in the country, from white-knuckle thrillers through to firm family favourites like the ghost train and dodgems.
This year’s event runs from Wednesday October 16 until Saturday October 19 and will once again be given a ceremonial opening on Thursday October 17 – when the Mayor of Erewash, Cllr Val Clare, will ‘ring the bell’ to get all the fun of the fair officially underway.
Cllr Mick Wallis said: “We are always proud to welcome Ilkeston Charter Fair, which transforms Ilkeston town centre into a colourful scene and it really is a case of ‘all the fun of the fair’ for people of all ages.
“This historic event brings thousands of visitors into the town to enjoy the lovely atmosphere and to experience the thrills and excitement on offer at this celebrated street fair.”
Attractions are open from 6pm-11pm on Wednesday and from 12 noon-11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
