UKIP storm to victory in Erewash vote

The United Kingdom Independence Party came out on top in Erewash after storming to victory in the polls.

The party, who experienced massive success nationally, pulled in more than 2,000 more votes than its closest rival the Labour Party.

The turn out was 34.16 per cent.

Votes were cast as follows:

An Independence from Europe - 528

British National Party - 534

Conservatives - 7,661

English Democrats - 362

Greens - 1457

Harmony - 53

Labour - 7,695

Liberal Democrats - 981

UKIP - 9,775

Returning officer for Erewash Borough Council’s count, Jeremy Jaroszek, confirmed 58 ballot papers were rejected.

UKIP’s successful night saw them secure more than a third of the whole of the East Midlands votes.
