A groom and his new wife are celebrating winning the Treetops Hospice weekly lottery, on the morning of their big day.
Dominic Aitken, from Long Eaton, was getting ready to marry Katharine (nee Gunn) at 2pm on Friday 6 December, at St Mary’s Church in Attenborough when he got a phonecall.
Dominic said “I was just about to crack a beer open and the phone rang. I thought it might be important, the photographer or someone.
“But it was Fiona from theTreetops Lottery, saying we’d won £1,000. I just said ‘Oh my god, we’re getting married today!’”
“I was speechless,” said Fiona Wysocki, “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing!”
Ignoring tradition Dominic phoned Katharine to share the good news.
Katharine said “I was shocked! We’re hoping to spend our honeymoon in Thailand in the new year, and this money means we can enjoy an even longer holiday.”
The weekly draw costs £1 per entry, and has a weekly prize of £1,000. Visit treetopshospice.org.uk.
