Winston the wind turbine in Awsworth has produced its first kilowatts of power.
The controversial 430ft structure, which turned for the first time last week, has divided opinion in the area, with some residents saying it has blighted the landscape and is too close to homes.
Others say it is an eye-catching piece of design.
The turbine powers the Newthorpe Sewage Treatment Work of Severn Trent Water.
Severn Trent’s renewable energy specialist, Jon Beeson said: “We’ve had the wettest winter on record, with strong winds too. The team constructing the turbine has pulled out all the stops to get it generating power.”
“As well as other things we hope they will protect our customers from future energy price rises.
“We understand that some people find them beautiful and some people don’t but we hope that local communities welcome the turbines as their neighbours.”
