Woman beats away attacker on her way home from night out

Police are appealing for information after a Derbyshire woman was assaulted in the street, and managed to beat away her assaulter

Detectives are asking for witnessed to come forward after a woman made her way home from a night out in Ilkeston.

The 31-year-old victim had been at pubs in the town on the evening of Saturday, May 28 when she was stopped at USA Express Chicken takeaway, in South Street, at about 2am on Sunday morning before walking towards the Cantelupe Road area.

As she walked along a section of path at the rear of Chaucer Infant School, a man appeared and assaulted her.

The victim struck the man several times and he ran off.

Detectives investigating the offence want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or who might have seen a man acting suspiciously.
