Man, 29, charged with alleged rape

A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged rape in Long Eaton.

The incident is alleged to have happened outside the library in Tamworth Road between 3am and 4am on Sunday, July 6.

Police have confirmed that a 30-year-old woman had been heading along the road and had taken a shortcut through the library grounds when the alleged sexual offence took place.

Jason Sedgwick, of Northcote Street, Long Eaton, was arrested by police officers in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said: “The 29-year-old has now been charged with rape.

“He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 18 and was remanded in custody to appear again at a future date.”

Police put out an appeal for witnesses after an incident that allegedly happened when the woman was walking home from a night out at Manhattan’s nightclub in Long Eaton.
