A court has found a man guilty of an assault on his ex-wife. Clifford Wyllie of Noskwith Street, Ilkeston appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday July 1 charged with assaulting former partner Jennifer Wyllie at her home in Ilkeston.
The trial heard evidence from both parties and a police officer who had attended the victims house on the night of the assault.
Giving evidence behind a screen Mrs Wyllie told the court the accused had grabbed her around the throat and pushed her to the floor at her home on the night of May 3. Photographs of her injuries were shown to the court.
Mr Wyllie claimed he acted in self-defence against his ex-wife but magistrates ruled he had used excessive force.
Giving the verdict, presiding magistrate Dorothy Dent said: “We find that the force used was excessive and was not acting in self-defence.”
He was given conditional bail and will be sentenced on July 22.
