Man charged with manslaughter after death of Ilkeston pensioner Derek Levers

A man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Ilkeston pensioner Derek Levers.

Ryan Belfon, 31, was arrested yesterday, after the death of 86-year-old Mr Levers, who collapsed following an alleged altercation at his home on Station Road, and later died in hospital.

Belfon, of Stapleton Road, Ilkeston, has now been charged with manslaughter in relation to Mr Levers' death.

He has also been charged with criminal damage at commercial premises, assaulting a police officer, and fraud offences relating to the alleged use of a credit card that did not belong to him.

Belfon was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
