Memories of school days gone by have been captured in a new book launched by Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy.

The limited edition book was created as part of celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the building.

Staff and pupils, past and present, have contributed to the book.

Kate Le Prevost, Extended Services Officer at OIEA, said the process has been emotional.

She said: “Although it’s great to see it finally come together, I also feel quite sad.

“People have invited me into their personal lives and very kindly shared their happy memories.”

Formerly Ilkeston County Secondary School, it became Ilkeston Grammar School in 1944, before being renamed Ilkeston School in 1977.

Principal Dave Smith said: “It’s daunting to be at the helm after so many characters before me. I hope that I can lead the school as well as them to develop a reputation worthy of the next 100 years.”
