The news that Peacocks on Bath Street might be closing brought back some memories from the early 1950s. Where Peacocks is now there was then a radio and electrical shop called Marvels and on the first floor the Arcadia ballroom.
Miss Nan Smedley had a dancing school there where all ages came to meet and dance.
I have many happy memories of the fun we had, the many friends I made and the medals and certificates we won. I began going when I was eight-years-old and I was still going in my teens.
I am sure that many other people will remember the Arcadia Ballroom and Miss Nan Smedley’s Dancing School. Some people met their future husbands or wives there.
