More than 240 watching TV in town with no licence

TV licensing detectives have caught more than 240 people in Ilkeston watching the box without a licence so far this year.

The licence costs £145.50 for a colour TV and £49 for a black and white set, but illegal viewers face a fine of up to £1,000.

TV Licensing spokesman for the East Midlands Mark Whitehouse said: “Watching or recording live TV without a licence is against the law.

“In fairness to the honest majority of people who pay the fee, we will prosecute those who try to avoid it.”

Payment options can be sorted out online at www.tvlicensing.co.uk or by calling 0300 790 6112.
