More time for flats plan at former paper

A PLAN to build 24 apartments on the site of the former Long Eaton Advertiser newspaper, which closed in 2008, has been given more time.

The application for the derelict building in West Gate was first received by Erewash Borough Council in 2008 but the three-year time limit was extended subject to the applicant discussing the provision of affordable housing at the site.

After designs for the four-storey building were shown to the committee last Wednesday, Cllr Rodney Allen said: “I’m not a particular fan of this design but I would rather see that than prolong the agony of the building that stands there at the moment.”
