MORTIMER the cat is our Rescue Me pet looking for a new loving home this week.
He was taken to the RSPCA animal shelter in Derby in by an inspector with his brother and the pair were named Mortimer and Reeves after comic duo Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves.
They have been at the shelter in Abbey Street for two months now.
Staff say the long time waiting for a new owner is not unusual for black cats, which puzzlingly, often struggle to be re-homed.
Mortimer is semi-long haired so will need some grooming.
But he has plenty of character says Karen Carter, communities manager at the centre.
She said: “He likes to put his front paws on your chest for affection and nuzzles into your neck. When you take his food bowl away from him he gently puts his paw on your hand or on the bowl to stop you. He will make a lovely family pet. It would be nice if he was re-homed with his brother Reeves, but it’s not essential.”
