A DEVASTATED mum has spoken to the Advertiser following the sudden death of her 40-year-old son – only two years after his 42-year-old brother also died unexpectedly.
Martin Reynolds, who was dad to two-year-old Sophie and one of eight brothers and sisters, died on Monday, September 26, at his home on Lord Haddon Road, Ilkeston.
And Shirley Reynolds told the Advertiser her only comfort is that her two sons are together now.
She said: “We were only just coming to terms with losing Mick and then we found out that Martin had died.
“You always think it will never happen to me but it’s happened twice.
“I’m still in shock, I can’t believe it.”
Shirley, of Lock Close, Kirk Hallam, added: “It’s heartbreaking to see Sophie.
“When it’s time for her to go she says she wants to go home to mummy and then stops before she says daddy. She can’t say his name, she knows something’s happened, she’s knows he’s not here now.
“And then it’s the little things, he’d ring me every day at tea time and now every time the phone rings I think it’s going to be him.
“You never expect to lose your children, losing one child is terrible but to lose another, I can’t describe it.
“I’m lucky I’ve got the family to help me cope, I’ve not been on my own since and everyone’s been really supportive.”
