Museum fun at solstice

CHILDREN can have a go at making paper lanterns for a special parade to mark the winter solstice – the shortest day of they year this weekend.

There will be open art workshops where youngsters can use natural materials to make their lanterns at Ilkeston Library in the Market Place from 10am to 3pm on Saturday.

The lantern parade takes place in Erewash Museum gardens in High Street from 4pm to 5pm, when school choirs will be singing and the Erewash Festival of Light mascot will make an appearance.

Following December 21, the days become gradually longer.
