BROXTOWE MP Anna Soubry has written to the Transport Secretary to support the campaign to build a train station in Ilkeston.
In her letter to Justine Greening MP, Ms Soubry said the station would be of ‘considerable benefit’ to her constituency as it would help reduce congestion on Broxtowe’s roads.
“In particular, it would serve the people of Trowell, which abuts Ilkeston, as well as the town of Stapleford and even Kimberley,” she wrote.
“Any improvement in public transport would mean fewer cars on the heavily-congested roads on the western side of my constituency.”
She explained that proposals to build 6,000 homes in Broxtowe would lead to greater congestion and that a train station would help to alleviate that.
Erewash MP Jessica Lee met Ms Greening a fortnight ago to talk about the station.
