A COMMUNITY centre playgroup presented its new garden, created using more than £9,000 of Lottery cash, to neighbours in Shipley View this weekend.
Raised beds for trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables have been installed at the Abbotsford Community Centre, which will most benefit the youngsters who attend the pre-school playgroup based there.
Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire have helped out with the gardening work.
Community food officer Jo Stanistreet said: “The playgroup staff have worked really hard to make this project happen and transform the outdoor area into a safer, more colourful and engaging space for their children,” she said.
“The kids have planted vegetables, herbs and strawberries although their favourite session seemed to be adding 200 wiggly worms to the raised beds to improve the soil.”
Also during the open day on Saturday there was a family fun afternoon, including fundraising activities by teenager James Taylor of West Hallam Charities.
