VISITORS to Erewash Museum prepared for the Chinese New Year celebrations at a lantern making workshop.

The paper lights were made at Erewash Museum on Saturday.

Another workshop will run this Saturday ready for the event to be marked with a lantern procession through Ilkeston.

The walk will start at 5.30pm and will feature a Chinese dragon and giant rabbit puppets made by students at Friesland School, Sandiacre.

Other schools will also perform at the event.

Cllr Mike Wallis, lead member for culture and leisure at Erewash Borough Council, said: “It’s wonderful that children from local schools have been involved in the making of the puppets and that they will be taking part in the procession and performing traditional Chinese dancing and music.

“It is always a popular event and a great spectacle for all the family. We hope to see you all there.”
