On warm summer weekends in times gone by, this spot would have been filled with Ilkestonians enjoying a dip and maybe a picnic.

Reader Tony Gidlow captured this shot at Hallam Fields Lock – which was once known as Stanton ‘hot waters’.

Industry at Stanton Ironworks heated the waters at this section of the Erewash Canal and whole families would go swimming there and enjoy a picnic, explained Tony. He added: “Nature has taken over and it looks beautiful.”
