A VACANT area of land in Cotmanhay earmarked to be turned into a medical centre was due to be put up for sale yesterday (Wednesday).
At a meeting as the Advertiser went to press, councillors were due to vote to sell the land at the junction of Skeavington’s Lane and Beauvale Drive ‘to the highest bidder’.
In January the Advertiser exclusively revealed that the owners of the Old Station Surgery in Heanor Road had expressed an interest in buying the land from Erewash Borough Council.
It is thought if they were successful, the new building would house a doctors surgery, chemist, phlebotomy services and citizens advice bureau.
If given the go ahead, it would replace Cotmanhay Medical Centre, which was branded one of the poorest surgery buildings in the NHS.
